TIME TRAVELLER TWO:
FURTHER BACKGROUND INFO ABOUT BTTM AND TAIT.
BEYOND THE TIME MACHINE (BTTM)
I’m a Time Traveller, so to speak -- Time Traveller Two. Perhaps I have time travel in my blood -- I’m not sure. Ever since I can remember, as a young child, I’ve always been fascinated with and wondered about the relativity of time and space, and thought about how time travel might actually be possible. And I’ve also been drawn into the wondrous realm of other unresolved scientific problems, mysteries, and phenomena.
Whatever the motivation, I was compelled in 1983 to visit Tusculum Villa in England (where H.G. Wells wrote his original book), spend a month in the rooms where Wells did his writing, and let this sequel come to me. BEYOND THE TIME MACHINE (BTTM) was scheduled for release in late 2001. My publisher breached his contract, and I decided to self-publish the book.
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE ORIGINAL TIME TRAVELLER?
Did the Time Traveller ever return?
He most certainly did! -- To the 33rd Century, that is! And “I”, “Time Traveller Two”, have “visited” him there. How “I” got there and why, also the purpose of “my” visit, are fully explained. You’ll read the full account and see the Future through “my” eyes. I’ve always wondered whatever happened to him and his little friend Weena mentioned in the original story.
BEYOND THE TIME MACHINE (BTTM) is a comprehensive direct sequel to H.G. Wells’ original story THE TIME MACHINE. It continues the story of the Time Traveller, answers many questions, and ties together other loose ends. And it also creates other topics for thought.
The Time Traveller and Weena finally settled in 33rd-Century London, a peaceful and stable era. You’ll learn how he managed to rescue Weena, even after believing she had perished in the conflagration. This is also the story of their progeny, with a heritage of a 19th-Century father and an 8028th-Century mother. As you might guess, even in the best of times, they still had to cope with more than their share of problems.
You’ll also revisit 802701, and glimpse an even remoter Far Future -- this one of 103,000,000 A.D. You’ll meet and visit with the Time Traveller’s oldest and youngest daughters. (His two sons vanished into the deepest regions of space years ago, and his middle daughter suffered a tragic fate.) And you’ll participate first-hand in all the unique sights and activities of 3204 “Lonn”, as it will be known.
TANGLES IN TIME (TAIT)
I started working on TAIT (my second “TIME MACHINE” sequel) in the mid-1990’s, just after finishing the first draft of BTTM. Several people who read that draft wanted to know more about the enduring, beloved Bindy (Belinda Morris), the Time Traveller’s perky, youngest daughter.
As such, I began thinking about how she might have fared with her unique heritage, after she had grown into a young adult (in her mid-20’s). With her mother from the 8028th Century and her father from the 19th Century, how would she manage in her 33rd-Century time-travel environment (common neither to her mother or father)?
It turned out she was very lost, indeed: fired from one job to another, having problems as a short woman in a tall world, and wondering if her mother’s Far-Future world was where she really belonged. Her father, the Time Traveller, himself, had just passed away of old age. But in her struggles, she did find a unique solution.
When working on TAIT’s first chapters, and somewhere after BTTM’s initial release, I learned (to my dismay) that the Bern Copyright Convention people, under very heavy lobbying from large corporations, had changed the European copyright rules. So instead of author’s death plus 50 years, it was now author’s death plus 70 years, which would put the original “Time Machine” book into worldwide public domain in 2017 instead of 1997. So my copyrights on both BTTM and TAIT still remain encumbered (free and clear here in the U.S., but still in force in other parts of the world) until 2017.
Now I understand the big corporations are again lobbying for author’s death plus 95 years, extending European copyrights to 2042 for H.G. Wells. Because of the Bern Convention’s absurd recent decisions (favoring the large corporations), and their controversial restoration of some previously expired copyrights, they have thrown the world copyright laws into chaos.
But despite this latest roadblock, I decided to finish TAIT for the benefit of my avid readers. It is a heartwarming story about Belinda, what finally became of her older brothers (long missing and presumed dead), and the eventual fate of Ktram’s brother Hrage. And it is a story of some further harsh decisions that had to be made, at one point, concerning Belinda’s survival.
Those who have read the first copies of TAIT said they liked it even better than BTTM. It is a normal-length book which also takes on some issues left unresolved in BTTM. However, in the world of time travel, when you resolve some issues, it seems you create so many more!
Because of the copyright chaos, this will be my last “TIME MACHINE” sequel. This is very sad; because I had so many more stories to tell about the Time Traveller and his progeny. So enjoy TAIT, which will also give you a close-up look at the evolution of time travel.

Some quick background on myself: I’m an alumnus of San Jose State University with a physics degree, and minors in chemistry and mathematics. Most of my working career was spent in the aerospace and computer industry -- in the fields of “Reliability” and “Tech Writing”. I participated in the launch of our first satellites, in what appeared to me as a bright future of space exploration and breaking into new frontiers.
Unfortunately, with these kinds of jobs (along with, I’d suppose, too many other jobs in almost every other field), it was little more than a stumbling ordeal of politics and other hassles -- which is very sad for determined minds who strive for accomplishments and new discoveries.
