Pictures of semi-intensive redclaw freshwater crayfish culture systems in Australia

Ponds are typically small (around 0.2 ha), square to rectangular, are 1.5 to 2 meters in depth, are usually surrounded by a small wall to prevent crayfish from escaping and to exclude predators, and may be completely enclosed by a net also for predator exclusion.

Redclaw pond tyres
Pond used for culturing redclaw at a farm in northern Queensland. Note the extensive use of car tyres as refuge for crayfish. This pond is used for polyculture with silver perch, but tyres are very often used when redclaw are farmed in monoculture.
