| Finding mistakes in your manuscript after you've sent it off to an editor or agent is frustrating. So is sending them something that has no chance of getting more than a cursory glance before it gets stuffed back in your SASE and returned to you because of typos or story problems. So why take the chance? Why not make sure you're sending out the best manuscript you can, the most professional package you can put together, before sending it to someone who can jump start your career or stop it dead in its tracks? For writers working with a critique group, this is easier, though still not foolproof. For writers working alone, it's sometimes more difficult. But it doesn't have to be impossible. | Necessary Information: - mss. must be in proper manuscript format before submitting for editing; this means 1 inch margins, double-spaced pages, and printed in 12 point Times New Roman or Courier font, approx. 250 words/page; see my formatting tips; see also my other writers' tips - payment in full is required at the time of the reading; if payment is not made, no editing will be done; payment must be made via PayPal or by money order only (payment instructions will be given for making payment after initial read if going further) - I will do a free initial read of the first five pages (but do not send these pages without contacting me first, or they will not be read) to determine if the mss. is really ready for editing, or if there are formatting or other problems that need to be addressed first |

| For general copy editing/proofreading: - $ .005/word, up to 100,000 words (in standard mss. format) - $ .007/word after 100,000 words For in-depth copy editing/proofreading/story critiquing: - $1.00/page up to 400 pages/100,000 words - $1.25/page after 400 pages/100,000 words For query letter critiquing: - 1 page only - $40 For synopsis editing/proofreading: - up to 10 pages - $1.50 page For hard copy editing: - postage must be included for return of mss. pages |
