SECTION TEN

AARON MARSHALL'S ORIGINS

Exploring "Possibilities "

The family origins of our Revolutionary War soldier Grandfather are not clear beyond the tale told in Section Nine. Family myth and wishful thinking become intertwined. Solid facts are few. Proof may be possible. Certainly. many contemporary family historians have made serious efforts to prove Aaron's ancestral origins. More research will be necessary to establish solid proof. However, having said this, let me be clear-I value and give credence to "family stories" especially when these "stories" are similar and come from Marshall’s who do not know each other and who are scattered both geographically and in time.

Below, I tell something of the Marshall family "myths." Note the indicated Attachments for source materials and for possible future research directions. WARNING: below this line, much more research is required to separate fact. from fiction and to prove or disprove our Marshall connection to them. This research effort may require all "Marshall" cousins.

Aaron's Parents

(Colonel John Marshall and Eliza Ferrall) In a 1931 Daughters of American Revolution application, Col. John Marshall and Eliza Ferrall are claimed to be the parents of Aaron Marshall. Eula M. Pittinger, applicant and third Great Granddaughter of Aaron, stated in her application that her sources were: the Oliver S. Marshall family history (his daughter Virginia says no such history ever existed) and the notations in her Grandfather's Bible (Israel Harvey Cullen of Newell, West Virginia-who was a Great Grandson of Aaron Marshall).
