Background Information
James Henry Mars, Sr. and Aubey "Ankie" Cox Jones were believed to be part of a wagon train of settlers migrating from North Carolina to the lower South. Stopping first to live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, James and Ankie eventually made Kemper Co., Mississippi their final home. They and a few of their children are buried in the cemetery of Spring Hill Methodist Church, a tiny church which is still standing today.
Running Into a Brick Wall
I do not know any information beyond James Mars and Ankie Jones. Conflicting written information places them as born in both NC & SC; and, since I have no way of searching through probable NC records at the moment, I would appreciate any help anyone would be able to provide.
My Objective
Searching for Mars descendants has proven to be both challenging and rewarding. I roughly have 3,722 names that I've collected since early 2001, and I strive to keep this information as current and as accurate as possible. Anything you can contribute to this website... wills, Bible records, census listings, birth and death dates, cemetery sites, old photographs, etc. ... would be greatly appreciated. With the information I acquire, I plan on compiling a non-profit Mars family book and donating a copy to several Mississippi libraries. That way, future generations will have this history compiled and safely stored for them. I would like to thank the people who have contacted me so far. With your help, this body of information has grown rapidly. Thanks!

Important News
*ANNOUNCEMENT*: Until further notice, no new content will be added to the old Mars family descendants listings as I complete a major overhaul of the structure of these pages. That does not mean that you cannot send me any additions/corrections/updates. I will still gladly be receiving these and adding them to the new format. From time-to-time until my work is complete, some pages might be missing. However, everything should be restored in its entirety, and this major structural change should be completed by late August 2008. (There are 10 Generations of Mars family descendants to upload, so this completion date is tentative and subject to change.) In the meantime, I will still continue to update and add content to the other sections of my website, especially the Records pages.
Thank you for your patience as I work on making this website more convenient for my viewers.
See a preview of the new descendants pages by clicking here. I decided not to make too drastic of a change in order to be able to quickly get the information up online. I have uploaded three generations for you to preview.
