Dear Jeannette,

First and formost, thank you for sending the pictures of Grayson to Mother! She is a darling looking little girl and surely must have a personality to go along with her looks. I am looking forward to meeting her and surely will in time find something to send or bring to her. I did have a gift but after talking with Gladys decided not to send it as according to her Grayson had ten of everything. And no little bably needs ten of anything as they grow so fast. I wish that I had done as Mother did and just sent a check along. Please don’t think me quite as uncaring as it must seem that I am.

I am enclosing an article which appeared this week in a local weekly paper. Being interviewed was quite an experience for Mother. She asked me what to say? I told her anything she wanted to as she was being interviewed-not I. So he telephoned her one morning and came out with a photographer white I was at work. When I came home for lunch she wondered if maybe she had not talked about Miss. Too much-I assured her that he could have guided the interview in any direction by questions and comments so I was sure she did fine. And frankly, I think she did. Please share the article with Gladys as I will send one to Margaret to share with Charles. I sort of thought you and George might like one and maybe you will save it for Grayson so she will have an idea of what her Aunt Lucile B. is really like. We are so far apart in distance it seems so it is probably that she will no see Mother often enough to remember her unless she is around another ten years or so. Frankly, Mother hopes she won’t be here that long. She say, “I have simply lived too long” but she plugs right along.

Our town is lovely now. The azaleas, pink and white dogwood, tulips and now the iris are blooming all over. Our street looks like fairy land. Of course we have pollen galore and the oak and pecan tassels are hanging and dropping right along. It does not good to sweep the porch or walk not waskh the cars as they are soon covered again. George’s car wash should be doing well with the pine pollen around there. Have you noticed that the blacks seem to keep their cars cleaner than the whites-here they do.

David seems fine in Rome. I imagine he will soon have his semi annual “change of season” plague. His nose runs, he sneezes and feels and feels like the devil for a few days and then it all clears up until fall. He is working on a commission from some firm in California. I think h e said about 500 metals will be struck from his model. He was sweating it out as there was a time or rather a date which he would need to have it completed and the dead line was about to run out when someone finally telephone to say he had the commission. He has become so annoyed with the quality of work the foundry he uses in Rome is churning out, that he and a friend are building a foundry. I have no idea where-surely not in his apt, but he has neglected to mention where. He has an interesting life. I wish he had the money to travel around Europe more but fortunately he isn’t a complainer. He did enjoy his stay in England enroute home last year. Did anyone mention to you that the British Museum asked for copies of 4 of his metals? He was more than pleased as it was an honor and surely speaks well about the quality of his work.

I know from experience that life is not dull for you, wearing at time perhaps, but never dull. Strangely enough, I can say the same thing about my life even now with no little ones around. But I do remember the years my children were growing and maturing, each so different from the other two. Renée and I had three years before Ivan joined us and then David, almost 3 years later.

I’ve not been to Miss. since Cathy’s wedding so I hope to get over before the weather gets too hot. I need a heavier car for Mother to travel in. Really she should fly as a long car trip is so tiring for her altho she would not admit it.

This is enough for now. Thanks again for the pictures and for the Democrat. It came today and Mother sat right down and read it. We were sorry to read that Walker Jones died but I am sure he is glad to be with Lena again.

Love,
Jane
