MORGAN'S RIFLEMEN  REQUIREMENTS

Each Recruit, to be a full member of Morgan’s Rifles. must meet requirements in these areas.  Established members must also meet these requirements to wear a turkey feather in your hat.  Marksmen badges may be worn at ANY time during recruit or member stage, if earned.

Gear:
Clothing:  Hunting shirt or frock, breeches, leggings made of leather, canvas, or wool (plain, unadorned), moccasins either (center seam or shoe~packs) or period correct shoes, Riflemen’s or cocked hat, neck scarf of linen, cotton or silk is suggested ( dull colors),

Personal gear:
Tomahawk or belt axe, (correct to period), belt knife, haversack or knapsack, Possibles bag  (shooting or hunting pouch),  Note: shooting bags do NOT have to be leather but should approximate the period gear.  Canteen.  Should be the appropriate style.

Rifle (flintlocks only):
If buying a factory rifle talk to one of the experienced members first about what to avoid. Your flintlock MUST be obtained within one year of joining.  You may borrow until that point (if someone is willing to lend).

Skills:
A recruit must show that he can light a fire with flint and steel.  Clean his flintlock , in the field, with gear from his own bag, fire the flintlock safely (blanks and live fire),  sharpen a knife and tomahawk, eat four consecutive meals from his own bag.  (may be cooked food or cold fare). The last is a shooting requirement.  A new member must, at twenty five yards, hit an 8½ x 11 inch rectangular target 3 times in a five minute period from benchrest, you may shoot as many times as you can manage in the timed five minutes.  If you are new this is MUCH easier than it sounds.

When a recruit has met a requirement it must be signed off by an officer, (except shooting requirements, which may be signed off by ANY Morgans member or recruit that has witnessed it).
